There’s always been a feeling that the Lakers’ big stars would be the ones to take over the team’s fortunes.
They’ve been in the spotlight for decades.
But that all changed after Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal retired in 2015, and now, with the team in dire straits, there’s an expectation that Kobe and the Lakers will have to go somewhere.
Now, the Lakers are losing big.
And losing badly.
The Lakers are a mess.
There’s no way around that.
They lost their fourth straight game Wednesday, a 112-104 loss at Utah that put them in a playoff spot with just four games left.
Kobe Bryant is not a part of the team anymore, which means there is no one left to play with, and the loss was felt most acutely by the Lakers front office, which has been searching for a new coach.
Kobe is not here anymore.
This team is not there anymore.
They just lost, and this is the final straw for the fans, many of whom have been begging for the Lakers to make a change.
After the Jazz game, Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak was asked why the team is losing, and he said: “Kobe, Shaq, [coach Byron Scott] all left and I’m the one who is left, and I don’t have time to talk to Kobe anymore.
That’s why I am doing this.
I have to.
I can’t just be the one in charge, and Kobe just doesn’t want to talk.”
The team’s last-place finish is also the team and its fans’ worst season since 2005-06, when they were 12-41.
The Lakers have lost nine of their last 11 games and have lost 16 of their past 17.
They have yet to win a game in the last six games.
For the Lakers, losing to Utah Wednesday was the final nail in the coffin.
The team has dropped nine of its last 12 games.
The season is over, and all they can do now is hope that the players will show up.
On Wednesday night, Lakers guard Julius Randle took the court for a team photo.
He did so with a huge grin, looking as good as ever.
Randle is a huge part of this team, and a huge disappointment.
He averaged 20.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 5.4 assists in 31 games last season.
He has one season left on his deal, which will pay him $16.8 million.
Randle was also the primary backup to O’Neill.
He’s a huge loss.
Julius Randles contract is up in the next few years.
He’s a massive loss.
Randles salary is not being paid and the team can’t afford to pay him the amount they are paying him now.
Randlles future with the Lakers is in question.
The franchise has made it very clear that they’re not interested in paying him the money he’s worth.
The players are angry.
There is no place for him in this organization.
The fans are angry as well.
It’s time for them to make changes.
It’s time to let some young guys step up and play.
This is a very sad and disappointing time for the team.
This should not happen.
They need to come together and let some new blood in.
