A startup that sells virtual reality content is opening up its virtual reality business for anyone to try out.
The rovios entertainment company has been working on a VR content development platform that’s aimed at developing a virtual reality entertainment business that could compete with the likes of Wayfair and Respawn Entertainment Center.
The company, which has more than a dozen employees, was founded in February and has already raised $6.2 million in venture capital funding.
It has created a VR app called RoVios, which can be purchased through the company’s website.
It offers a free trial of the app which will run for three months.
RoVios offers a number of different content types for its users to choose from including documentaries, short films and documentaries for younger audiences.
It is also working with local film studios to create content to run on RoVio, and is also developing a range of new VR experiences.
The app can also be purchased in the Oculus Store for $9.99.
It’s one of a handful of VR platforms that is available to the public in Australia, with other platforms like Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Samsung Gear VR available in some parts of the world.
RoRios founder and CEO Matt Roberts said he was inspired to create RoVius by his work in the gaming industry.
“The gaming industry is in a big place right now and the only way you can get a good game is to have someone buy it,” he said.
“But we have this great opportunity right now to be able to bring a VR product to the masses.”
RoRius also provides a platform for developers to build and release their own VR games for RoRios VR platform, which will be free to use.
The RoRius VR platform is a mobile application that will be available for download for free on RoRio’s mobile app store.
“We’re in the early days of VR and VR has been an exciting experience for a lot of people in the past, and the ROI is something that has been very exciting for our investors,” Roberts said.
“It’s really exciting to be working on this platform that can be used to create a VR entertainment business.”
The company is working with RoRies gaming studio to develop content for the platform.
