SAN FRANCISCO — The “Star Trek” sequel, slated for a 2018 release, will be a major part of the franchise’s history, CBS Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves said Thursday.
“This franchise will have a huge presence in our lives for a very long time,” Moonves told a news conference.
Moonves said he expects to see new actors in the movie and new cast members.
The studio has also made an announcement of a new “Star Wars” movie.
It is still not known how much the new movie will cost.
The original “Star War” franchise has a long history with “Star” movies.
On Thursday, the company announced that it has a “Star Empire” tie-in book, with new characters, events and characters.
That book is set for release by the end of 2019, and will have “Star,” “Starfleet” and other characters from the “Star wars” universe, Moonves and Chief Operating Officer Amy Pascal said in a statement.
